Emissions engineering calculations

Software tools

EPA maintains several resources for estimating emissions based on factors and/or associated engineering calculations. These tools include TANKS for estimating VOC and hazardous air pollutant (HAP) emissions from fixed- and floating-roof storage tanks, and WATER9 for estimating air emissions from wastewater collection, storage, treatment and disposal facilities.

Process examples - MDI emissions

Guidance that includes detailed equations, assumptions and examples of engineering calculations for estimating MDI emissions from polyurethane and other manufacturing processes is available from the CPI document MDI/Polymeric MDI Emissions Reporting Guidelines for the Polyurethanes Industry. Application-specific examples include adhesives/coatings, appliances, automotive, boardstock, packaging spray foam, oriented strand board and other processes.

Software / tools - MDI emissions

The CPI provides a handy "MDI Emissions Estimator Software" tool for estimating emissions from numerous types of unit operations and manufacturing processes.
